This is a print from an original oil painting that I recently sold. It was 91x91cm.
 
I wanted it to be emotional visceral and not only show Van Gogh’s anguish but also mirror my own. I want people to connect with it on an emotional level as well as finding it aesthetically pleasing or interesting. I used overlapping images to create a confusion and to steal focus from one part of the piece to another and ask the viewer to explore the different aspects that create the whole.
 
Van Gogh’s story is heartbreaking. He battled with what many think was manic depression and took his own life at just 37. His work is so powerful and provoking and my painting is a kind of tribute to him as someone who has affected the whole world with his work. 
 
The title is taken from what are thought to be his last words according to his brother Theo whom he kept in constant correspondence with throughout his life.
