Painted from a wonderful photograph of art model Nasim I have to admit to not really being sure how this one was going to turn out. Something darker than I intended started to happen. A friend of mine interpreted the shadow as being too dark for a shadow and it felt more ethereal or other worldly. 
 
I like this view and I have to admit that even though that might not have been my initial intention, I do feel that my psychological state may have transferred to the canvas.
 
I often talk of my depression coming out into my work and a want to escape the cloud that often comes over me.
 
This painting feels almost cathartic, with a  strong feeling of wanting to remove myself from something that has been holding onto me. It doesn't feel dark to me, it feels more hopeful, as if the figure has made a deal with it's other worldly companion to part ways in peace.
