The piece, part of my 'Blood is the Life' series. explores the relationship between romance and death, examining how attraction and mortality can become closely intertwined.
 
This was originally painted for an exhibition that I sadly had to pull out of. It sat for a while as I suddenly became unsure of its meaning. I was struggling a bit with my mental health so it took a darker tone. The figure is a angel but I wanted to dismiss the idea of the divine and make the celestial being just flesh and bone like the rest of us, weak and mortal like the rest of us. 
 
I see a lot of beauty in it, because real angels are just people, humans that fight to help us every day, sometimes at great cost to themselves. Don't look to the sky, look around, open your eyes and they're there. x
