Artist statement
The original piece that this is printed from was part of my ‘Blood is the Life’ series (visit the collection via the homepage). This painting has a mind of it's own, or rather the viewer really dictates what they see. Some have seen fragility, while some have seen something more malevolent. 
 
‘Blood is the Life’ as mentioned above takes direct inspiration from Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula and the 1992 Francis Ford Coppola movie adaptation that still stands, in my opinion, as the most accurate take on the original text. I’m particularly interested in the way gothic narratives present love as something that exists alongside danger, transformation, and loss. These ideas encourage me to confront my own response to themes such as blood and death, not only as sources of fear but also as symbols that carry emotional and psychological meaning.
